Children’s Environmental Health
Be it resolved that the Green Party of Minnesota demands that the government must be proactive to prevent harm to children, so all children grow up in a safe, healthy environment that is protected by public policies that make children’s well-being paramount.
Resolution Against Torture
Be it resolved that the Green Party of Minnesota:
- publicly denounces and opposes any and all uses of torture & cruel, inhuman or degrading treatment;
- demands from all appropriate government bodies, including the Department of Justice and the Department of Defense, the full enforcement of U.S. laws that make torture illegal;
- demands that the International Committee of the Red Cross and the United Nations Special Rapporteur on Torture have access to all detention facilities and detainees held in U.S. facilities anywhere in the world, including the right to talk to prisoners directly, as a way to prevent torture;
- rejects the practice of “extraordinary rendition” at home and abroad by which some detainees are sent for interrogation to countries that practice torture and cruel, inhuman and degrading treatment;
- demands as full a rehabilitation as possible for victims of torture which the U.S. is responsible for creating, as called for by the U.N. Convention Against Torture.
Impeachment of Bush-Cheney
Be it resolved that the Green Party of Minnesota calls for the impeachment of President George Bush and Vice President Dick Cheney.
Peace First in Iraq
Be it resolved that the Green Party of Minnesota demands that the United States:
- immediately withdraw U. S. Military Personnel from Iraq and end U. S. funding for military operations in Iraq including, but not limited to: permanent bases, air strikes, clandestine operations, and private military contractors;
- generously fund veterans’ benefits for all returning U.S. troops, including physical and psychological rehabilitation and duty-related economic protection;
- finance a generous, UN-administered reconstruction fund that will provide for:
- Iraqi ownership of reconstruction,
- the renegotiation of all contracts awarded during the period following the invasion and before the creation of a fully representative and sovereign Iraqi government,
- the recovery of Iraqi property stolen during this same period;
- protection of the Iraqi people and US taxpayers from further theft, corruption, foreign exploitation, forced privatization, and no-bid, cash-only contracting.
Military Withdrawal from Iraq
Be it resolved that the Green Party of Minnesota supports an immediate, humane, orderly, rapid, and comprehensive closure of bases and withdrawal of U. S. military personnel from Iraq.
Military Withdrawal from Afghanistan
Be it resolved that the Green Party of Minnesota supports an immediate, humane, orderly, rapid, and comprehensive closure of bases and withdrawal of U. S. military personnel from Afghanistan.
Rejection of United States Foreign Policy
Be it resolved that the Green Party of Minnesota rejects our current U. S. foreign policy that is intent on building an American Empire; an empire with overtones of religious intolerance, racism, and with an impulse toward ideological dominion.
Single-payer Universal Health Care Coverage
Be it resolved that the Green Party of Minnesota supports legislation, at the state and federal levels, which establishes universal health care coverage and a single-payer, or Medicare-for-all, system.
Hospital and Health Insurance Accountability
In the absence of a single payer system:
- Be it resolved that the Green Party of Minnesota expects endorsed candidates and elected officials to hold nonprofit, tax-exempt hospital systems in [the Twin Cities and through out] the state of Minnesota accountable for providing quality, affordable health insurance to their workforces [because a healthy work force leads to healthy hospitals and healthy communities].
- Be it further resolved that we expect any expansion plans of Minnesota nonprofit hospitals to be evaluated in light of how each system is providing affordable health insurance to its current workforce [as a sign of its investment in our communities].
- Be it further resolved that we demand that health care charges for the uninsured not exceed the charges that Medicare is willing to pay to the health-care providers.
De-privatization of State Health Programs
Be it resolved that the Green Party of Minnesota supports legislation that requires the Minnesota Department of Human Services to administer state health programs rather than managed-care companies.
Immigration Law Reform
Be it resolved that the Green Party of Minnesota supports comprehensive reform of U.S. immigration laws to provide:
- a road to documentation and citizenship for immigrants
- reunification of families
- protection of the rights and civil liberties for all workers
And therefore:
Be it resolved that we reject legislation that prevents local governments from advancing public safety policies and we support immigration law enforcement being left to the proper federal authorities. It follows that we oppose Governor Pawlenty’s proposal to put immigration status on drivers’ licenses.
Renewable Electricity
Be it resolved that the Green Party of Minnesota supports a Renewable Electricity Standard for Minnesota, to require state utilities to generate increasing amounts of their electricity mix from renewable resources.
Broader Access to Media
Be it resolved that the Green Party of Minnesota:
- supports development of municipal wireless services
- calls for broadening low-power FM access, which will allow more low-power FM stations
- calls for increased access and funding, on all levels, for non-English media
- supports federally the break up of large media conglomerates
- opposes federal rules to deregulate media consolidation
Anti-Privatization of Appleton Prison
Be it resolved that the Green Party of Minnesota supports legislation to purchase the private prison in Appleton, Minnesota, owned by the Corrections Corporation of America.
NWA Mechanics Support
Be it resolved that the Green Party of Minnesota supports the provision of unemployment benefits and retraining assistance for Northwest Airlines mechanics who have lost their jobs.
Great Lakes Restoration and Protection
Be it resolved that the Green Party of Minnesota calls for Congress to adopt legislation to implement and fully invest in the Great Lakes Restoration Plan and to implement the Action Plan to Restore and Protect the Great Lakes.
Moratorium on Genetic Engineering of Wild Rice
Be it resolved that the Green Party of Minnesota supports putting a moratorium on the introduction of genetically engineered wild rice in Minnesota through the State Legislature, in order to protect natural lake and river stands of wild rice.
End Hunting of Mourning Doves
Be it resolved that the Green Party of Minnesota demands that the statute allowing the hunting of mourning doves be immediately repealed.
Coldwater Spring Protection
Be it resolved that the Green Party of Minnesota calls for the 27-acre Coldwater Spring campus, located between Minnehaha Regional Park and Fort Snelling State Park, be returned to open green space, and be preserved and protected for the future.
Oppose Anti-Marriage Amendment to Minnesota Constitution
Be it resolved that the Green Party of Minnesota opposes any amendme3nt to the Minnesota Constitution that prohibits or limits marriage, civil unions, and/or legal protections for same-sex couples.
